Crab and Mango Salsa SHIPWRECK in Chilled Avocado Soup: NO SURVIVORS

This chilled avocado soup with a lump crab mango salsa looks so pleasing, it’s practically smiling up at you through your computer screen. Yet looks can be entirely deceiving; inspired by an easily accessible recipe on epicurious.com, I attempted to create my own version by kicking it up a notch with thai chili peppers and other tropical flavors, the result of which was completely inedible. Sometimes, my best intended ideas just go unrealized. The mango and shrimp combination was truly underwhelming, even with the usually harmonizing additions of fresh cilantro, lime juice and onion. The soup was chalky and bland, and could not be rescued by any amount of garlic. I only had two chili peppers at my disposal, the presence of which were completely lost in the ultimate chaos of the dish. Luckily, my boyfriend was also making tasty grilled chicken sandwiches on crusty french bagguettes for dinner, so no one went hungry last night. I’m getting pretty good at cooking these days, but this wasn’t my first catastrophe- you’ve simply got to fail now and then in order to continue learning anything in the kitchen.
