Happy Chanukah 2015!

Happy Chanukah 2015!

Happy Chanukah 2015! This delicious dulce de leche donut from the outstanding Breads Bakery (http://www.breadsbakery.com) here in NYC was a part of our celebration this evening at Cooler Kitchen headquarters. That, and the lighting of our simple and very candle wax covered menorah, prominently displayed by some of our favorite cookbooks.

Jewish people eat donuts, or sufganiyot, on Chanukah for the same reason that latkes are also enjoyed. Foods fried in oil symbolize the miracle of the lamp that burned for 8 crazy nights instead of the expected one following Judas Maccabee’s victory over the Assyrians thousands of years ago. Don’t you worry, we have been making latkes galore and we’ll even be trying out this recipe for bite-sized sufganiyot (http://www.cookingclassy.com/2012/01/15-minute-donuts-from-scratch/) for a Chanukah party with our families coming up this Friday. So stay tuned for some drool-worthy pics of latkes, brisket and more! I’ll even ask my mom for her permission to let me post her latke recipe
